Opportunities of insects

Both policy and society are increasingly paying attention to sustainable food and circular food systems. This LEADER-project focuses on the rearing of insects as a source of high-quality animal protein and valuable nutrients. Insects have the capacity to convert low-value by-products into high-quality components (e.g. protein) with applications in human nutrition, animal feed or industrial applications. This project aims to teach school students the potential of insects in an educational and participatory way by involving them closely in insect farming. More specifically, insects will be bred on by-products from the school environment. The produced insects will then be used as feed for the poultry present on or near the school.
